Red breasted merganser ? Fundata lake, Romania

Can anyone confirm eclipse male Red breasted merganser ?

I can confirm it isn't a merganser, looks like an aythya, tuftie or ferruginous for example.

bill is too short for a duck i think. an odd black-necked grebe for me, like the one on the right.

It is a Black-necked Grebe, the flanks are raised, which is probably what's throwing people.

Well it certainly threw me at first. I can see Black Necked Grebe now (I think)

Thank you all for your help. There were indeed lots od black-necked on the lake, but, as some of you noticed, this one had a particular stance and some puzzling colours.
