Birds in Ecuador Part 2

After a couple of hours at the Yanacocha Reserve we drove the back roads to the Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve for lunch and more birding. Here are 4 more birds I from there.

1. I’m pretty sure this is a Southern Beardless-Tyrannulet. Sorry about the fuzziness.

2. The left one is a Sparkling Violetear. I think the right one is a Buff-tailed Coronet which were plentiful at Bellavista; is this correct?

3. I believe this is a Gorgeted Sunangel.

4. The two on the left are more Buff-tailed Coronets. Is the one on the right also one and the blue highlights are just a trick of the lighting?

Any verifications/corrections will be appreciated.

Agree with 1-2-3 but in the 4 the Hum on the right is Sparkling Violetear for me. Note the belly violet and the ear also violet.

I was too in Ecuador in august..............

Thanks Paolo. I only had one day in the highlands before flying to the Galapagos for a week's cruise which was marvelous and then on to Cusco and Machu Picchu for three nights.

Agree with the previous suggestions, except the 1st, which is not a Southern Beardless-Tyrannulet. Probably a juv. Smoke-coloured Pewee, but difficult to be 100% certain from the available photo.

I can see this too. My two books have markedly different illustrations and the one I primarily used didn't show the juvenile.

I agree with the IDs and that the first is probably Smoke-colored Peewee. Nice pics, especially the Sunangel. I worked at Bellavista some years ago- it was fantastic to walk that upper road every morning.

Unfortunately, I wasn't there long and missed the upper road. I would love to go back. I could have spent hours just sitting at the bar watching the hummers.
