Binocular Manufactures

Does anyone know where 'RSPB' and the In Focus 'DELTA' bins are made?

Are they made by the same people as other branded binoculars, and badged/labelled differently.

Regards

Can't comment on these models, specifically, but although sometimes identical-looking models are made alongside each other, other times it's the actual design that's identical. This design can be bought by any manufacturer and made wherever they have the facility.

Oh, and Welcome to Bird Forum, by the way!

welcome to the forum Lee.

don't where they are made but I suspect they come from the same source factory.

The Delta SL's are good and were comparable to similarly priced Opticron bins when I last looked through a pair.

Thanks for the reply,
I understand what you are saying.
The reason I ask is that on the net there was some discussion that in focus's delta bins where made by or in the same factory as opticron. But retailing for less.

I will soon be 'splashing' out £250 - £300 on some new bins and am trying to get the most for my money.
Brand names don't particularly worry me (unless a suddenly win the lottery), what concerns me is getting the most for my cash.

Regards.

Of course, Opticron, In Focus, RSPB, Viking, etc.,etc., are just brand names and it's up to each ones' buying strategy as to whether they buy the 'top-quality' items or those that 'just fail' to pass the manufacturers' best quality control.

Presumably, the price they (and we!) pay is determined by both the quality and the quantity that they buy.

As usual, the best advice is to try out the models you prefer and choose the best one on the day

Tero,I think that's a far more succinct way of saying what I was trying to say!

Thanks all.

Guess that the old adage is true...try as many as possible before buying, regardless of the name on the side.

Have a look at the Avian 'brand' sold by Ace in Bath http://www.acecameras.co.uk. They're well regarded and look similar to the Celestron Regals reviewed recently at Better View Desired http://www.betterviewdesired.com.

You can also consider the Pentax DCF SP (superior performance) range. Recently reviewed on betterviewdesired. The only way to buy these in the UK is from www.amazon.co.uk and go to electronics section. The 8x32 is £273, 8x43 £292 and 10x43 £325. Unfortunately, there is no way to try before you buy, but they have an excellent reputation in the States.

I have had a pair of these bins myself for two years. they were bought as a gift. they were 10x42. the spec was good but the FOV was poor and with wearing glasses both my wife and I could not cope with the massive reflection I got when the sun was poking through the clouds. i tried a friends 8x42 and they were slightly better but still bad reflections.

Like all optics take the advice of members regarding trying some out. i sold the Bins 12 months ago for £200 so i got away lightly.

i was dealt a valuable lesson at that time.

let us know how you get on.

Lee as Clive suggests the Pentax range gets very good reviews in America.Amazons prices are also excellent in some cases cheaper than in America.I sure if you buy from Amazon and are not satisfied they will refund your money.

I asked the question to a local dealer and was told that the "branded" bins came out from the same manufacturer. Some branded bins may have a slightly different spec, if this was a requirement from an importer.

I do not think that this applies to the top end bins.

I believe the RSPB bins come from Japan. There is at least one factory - probably more - that produces binoculars for other people. They are tweaked to the customers requirements i.e. armour styling and coatings. Some binoculars from Bresser are obviously the same as some RSPB ones. There was a thread about this some while ago.

As said, you should try them for yourself.

The Pentax SP range do seem to get a lot of good comments, though I have not tried them myself.

I would do! Most, if not all, medium priced binoculars have the same optical lenses! Mass produced in Taiwan, IMO.

And, certain well known companies use their optics and do not manufacture their own nowadays! But, consumers seem to think, their optics are the best

Would you care to name them?

From what I've heard the Delta range are produced by Opticron and the RSPB ones through Viking optics.
