On my last trip to North America I did see a Great Blue Heron catch and eat a metre long snake, I think it was a western garter snake. Pretty amazing to watch as it slowly disappeared into the herons bill. I watched it inch by inch as it, head first, went down.

Here is a really bad picture of it. Sorry about the picture quality.
