Hi Jen, I think it is an oil beetle but thats all I know. I just saw a picture of one this morning on the isles of scilly bird group web site. Try 'oil Beetle' on Google and you will eventually find a site with a picture and some information to confirm ID.

Hi
I can't give you a species name, but its a type of longhorn beetle. Oil beetles have short antennae and long abdomens that are not covered by the wings.

I don't know what it is but I hope those are real tiny blades of grass.

Hi Jen;
it´s a longhorn beetle, as Tom allready said, probably it´s even possible to find out which genus-I will try when I find time... And it does not look like a tiny specimen... how big was it?

It was about 1.5 - 2" (not including enormous antenna!)
I saved it from a gang of enormous ants - I guess they grow 'em big there!

Jen :-)

Whatever it is, it sure looks prehistoric.
