Another yellow-legged Herring Gull? Copenhagen, today.
Hot on the heels of my yellow-legged Herring Gull yesterday I found this bird today on a local lake. Unfortunately I did not get any more shots, either in flight or from different angles. I think it is probably another yellow-legged argentatus Herring Gull but I have nagging doubts as the mantle seemed maybe a shade darker (this may be my imagination!) and the eye seemed smaller and darker than the Herring Gulls nearby. On the negative side, the mirrors on the primaries don't seem small.
Grateful for confirmation that it is 'just another' argentatus... Thanks, Terry |

I can confirm Terry - just another Herring.
Check some here and note the bareparts colouration at this time of year together with structural differences. However - altough I´m sure of your gull, it´s a good thing to be able to have an openwing shot if possible! http://waarneming.nl/soort/photos/25...d_akt=0&page=2 JanJ |

Thanks JanJ! The colour of the mantle, eye-ring and gonys spot are all quite striking on the birds in your link. I'll keep looking...! Thanks again, Terry.
