Vortex Vipers

I'm a photographer that needs a set of binoculars for general viewing.

I was recently shown a pair of the 10x42 Vortex Vipers, as they fit within my £350 budget they're currently on my list. I just wondered if anyone has any views on them or possible other binoculars that may fit in the same budget.

I viewed a their range of bins at the Midland Bird fair and I thought they were generally good. I liked the build quality and design. Imagewise I thought they were not quite up to the Hawke Frontier ED's. London Camera Exchange are knocking them out at £259.00. That is well within your budget.

The vipers are a very good buy for the money. You can get slightly superior optics for somewhat less money by going for one of the Chinese ED's (such as the Hawke frontier mentioned above). But then you are dealing with a less established company, and there may also be other differences important to you, such as eye relief, speed of focus, lack of a locking diopter, and weight.

Best,
Jim

Haven't looked through a pair of frontier ED, but its spec is very similar to ZEN ED1. It definitely has better optics and value overall.
