Hello from wet Beds

Hi, Im new to the Bird Forum. I currently live in Bedfordshire, in delightful Arlesey.
I have birded in the UK for more than twenty years and have had a little bit of foreign birding experience.
I bird mainly in Cambridgeshire, mainly at Grafham Water.
My website is indybirder.tripod.com which carries a page or two devoted to photos of Grafham birds, plus a few trip reports and Cambs rarities. I do a bit of digiscoping, although the Sony Camcorder I use does not produce the sharpest pics, although I don't care really- Im a birder not a photographer!
Hi to everybody that knows me.
Cheers
Jono

On behalf of Admin and the Moderators, welcome to Bird Forum

By the looks of your website, you have plenty to offer and share with the membership.

See you around.

Hi Jono, and welcome to the forum. I've been to Grafham a couple of times, but not for birding. I had a Heron at the time, and was sailing in it! It was certainly very wet and wild the second time I went - we took two Herons that time, and my son in his didn't heed my advice - so he capsized in a blow! My (borrowed) boat lost a fitting, so I had to retire.

Hi Elizabeth,
Heron? I assume its a boat?!
Well, when the next Leach's turns up if you can give me a lift out to the middle of the reservoir to get a better view that would be great!
cheers

Hi Jono,
Welcome to birdforum.net, we hope you enjoy the site.
My girlfriend and I have just moved out of Arlesey in the last couple of weeks, now Hitchin. I'll miss the water meadows and especially the chinese take-away
Err, not sure if it's my AVG virus software but it really didn't like your site and what it was trying to get onto my pc... it suspected a trojan but I'm fairly sure it was something more innocuous called 'startpage' which is no more than something that automatically overides your homepage on I.E, maybe spyware as well.
Best regards,
Andy

Funny you should mention that, Andy. My AVG detected a trojan the other day called Dialer 6 or something, I have vaulted it, but I think a Reformat is in order.
Welcome to BF, Jono, from sunny(?) Stevenage.

Sorry Jono - that was around 25 years ago. I laid my wetsuit to rest some while back!

Didn't notice a thing. The Google toolbar is very useful sometimes!

Hi, Jono, and welcome!

Hope you'll think about participating in our GGBsC III -- the world wide bird species count we're doing at the end of May. I'm pretty sure we've never had a report from Grafham before, so it would be quite welcome. You can find full details in the Member's Notice Board under "ANNOUNCING: GGBsC III: Rules and Regulations".

Enjoy your time on the forums!

Thank you very much!

Cheers for making me feel welcome!
My site is hosted and is covered in awful pop-ups, but as Bluetail says, if you have the google taskbar, it should not be a problem! Can anybody suggest a good cheap web host so that I can get rid of tripod and their popups?

The Chinese takeaway in Arlesey is good, although the Raj Villa (or Rat Villa) is even better! Andy, did you have the Roller in Arlesey a few years ago?
cheers,
Jono L

Hello Jono,

I'm a newbie from Bedford and much as I was hoping to head over to RSPB Sandy the weekend was far to wet for me.
I am a fair-weather person so remained looking onto the garden at home!

Be seeing ya.

I think there's a thread going on in the computers & internet forum on BF about free web space.
Yep, the indian is pretty good but the chinese does some of the best chips i know...and check out their Thai stuff, notably the tom yum (prawn), i'll be back in arlesey high street on a regular basis for that. Miss the sheep at the bottom of the garden as well :(
I was living in Folkestone when the roller appeared...think Nigel (Blake) found that one.

Mark, All the best birds turn up in the rain! Well, maybe not all....
Are you on the Bedsbirds yahoo newsgroup? If not I heartily recommend it. See the Beds BirdClub website for joining details.
cheers Jono

Andy,
Do you know where in Arlesey the bird was? Just so when I'm passing I can try and imagine it....! (sad, I know)

Shoots! I better start getting some all-weather clothing then, Jono!
Hey, my new bins make a world of difference. I can see more detail and properly identify birds!
(Like the jackdaw which from a distance looks like a crow!
And maybe siskins have popped into the gardeen but they can look a bit like the greenfinch!)
Wifey went mad for a little while when she found out I'd spent £150 but she calmed down after an hour or so! I tried to explain that these were at the low-end but didn't really help!
Will look up the Beds BirdClub , thanks.
