Goa Field Guide
For a trip to Goa can anyone tell me if there are any advantages in getting the Grimskipp South India guide or should I just stick with my Indian Subcontinent one? Or maybe something new is about to be issued?
Thanks, |

Has anyone actually used a field guide in Goa, or are you just shy? ![]() |

Hi Alf,
can't say definitely as I haven't used the South India version but I haven't had any problems with the "all India" version. When I was there in 2007 the locals that I spoke to were using Grimmskipp - as opposed to the Rasmussen "Birds of South Asia The Ripley Guide". The checklist provided by Backwoods and the tour operators tend to use the latter which can cause some confusion as the local guides based on the coast were using Grimmskipp - ie, due to taxonomic differences. That said things may have changed (but the Rasmussen costs around £50 which may be outwith the reach of the locals) but whatever the case it shouldn't detract that much from being able to ID and your enjoyment. cheers Gordon |
