This morning I saw two point-tailed palmcreepers in the coconut trees outside. They were hanging on the underside of the branches, and seemed to be doing something to the branch with their beak. Does anybody know what they were doing?

I am afraid that I have never even heard of one but I bet they were picking off insects, assuming that is that they are insectivorous... off to google one!

Thanks for the idea, Jane. My fieldguide say they are insectivorous, so thats what they could have doing, eating insects.

I have seen them doing that before , I think as Jane said they were picking insects off like most funarids do.

likewise i imagine they were gleaning insects (from the Mauritia palms they almost exclusively feed on. Had fleeting views of them in 2002 - stonking things and maybe the best ovenbird....?
