Eastern Stonechat
Hello everybody
i always get visits of the Saxicola torquata felix at this time of the year, i don't think it is a migrant as it is an endemic to this region, but my sightings are always to the male, not very familiar with the female, so what you think. thanks all. |

The upper tail coverts look promising. Was the rump pale. I'm only used to seeing fresh autumn birds, when the pale fringes to just about every feather are really distinctive.

I don't know felix at all. You can see enough of the tail (no white) to rule out variegata & armenica. I can't see the rump that clearly, but I'd expect torquata (and felix???) to be showing dark centres to the upper tail coverts.
As I said I'm most used to first winter maura-types - when they have pale fringes to everything, but that would be my best suggestion. hi Jane, torquata felix is a subspecies from the African one, it is called the Arabian stonechat, it is endemic to the west of the Arabian peninsula and Socotra. Alsirhan has a shot for it on Socotra but the male, i am more familiar with it.
http://www.alsirhan.com/Blog/?p=1246 thanks for the links, have to check carefully, and i got more shots , i will check them and if any get a better view i will post it, just give me one ot two hours. |
