Bats in Southern Spain ID

Nice shots
bat2 and bat7 look like Schreibers' Bent-winged bats (Miniopterus schreibersii)
bat3 looks like one of the mouse eared (Myotis myotis or Myotis oxygnathus)
the others are a bit more of a challenge most look like Daubentons (Myotis daubentonii) but its difficult to tell and see any key features or size. The bat on the right of 'bat1' looks different but again can't see enough of it.

Cheers,
Daniel

In my opinion the bat on the right of bat 1 is a Daubenton's - ear length and shape look right - which leaves the dark grey top/pale underside bats to be resolved. They are of a size with Daubenton's or a bit bigger, if I am right about the first photo.

Whiskered (including Alcathoe's!) and Brandt's are out of range for this location annd anyway are smaller than Daubs.

I had a look at photos and descriptions in the Handbook and found a young Schreiber's that fitted pretty well. Nothing else looked remotely like.

'S not easy this.

bats

Possibly adding to the confusion, here are some photos I took. I presume at the same place - the tunnel at Andujar?

So Mark what are your thoughts? And John what about our two? I've spent a while looking at books and on the web and I'm totally out of my depth.

Now I come to look at them again, my latest picture could be the same as my second in the original post. It's probably just the angle making the ears look bigger. If it helps Mark, feel free to tout mine. I know why I've never real got into bats.

ID keys of European and North African bats

Hi,

Mark & Steve try this identification key and say if it works for your photos; as this guide contains some excellent photos in hand, it could be helpful. But you have to struggle with Latin names .

Dietz C. & von Helversen O. 2004. Illustrated Identification key to the bats of Europe. Tuebingen & Erlangen (Germany)

Try this one if it happened that you took a picture of a bat in North Africa and does not appear in the key cited above.

Dietz C. 2005. Illustrated identification key to the bats of Egypt. Tuebingen (Germany)

Regards
