Danes Moss

Just spent an hour or so at Danes Moss in Gawsworth. A bit quiet on the bird front, but I can see potential. Anyone had any better luck here?
Also I've been told it's a good sight for dragonflies and lizards, again no luck today though it was a tad cold.

I must say its a site i've never visited. What is it like? Where did you park?

It's a bit like Lindow Common, ancient raised peat bog, but a lot more secluded and less dog walkers.
There's a sharp bend in the Woodhouse End Road, about a mile or so from the A523 (take a right at Fools Nook if going out of macc), park there. There's more info on the CWT website.

Not a very good site for birds as the peat bog pools are pretty acidic . I've seen lizard there years ago and dragonflies are around. The site was much larger when I was a kid ( used to play there sometimes) but the local tip has encroached greatly. Was still being commercially worked for peat up to the early sixties.
