Where to see ospreys

Hello,

I wiil be in Scotland from July 26th to August 9th.
Will there still be ospreys at this time ?
And where can I see some ? I will be mainly in the Dumfries and the Borders, surely not the time to go to Loch Lowes.

Thanks

Hi Saxcat

There should be no problem seeing Ospreys in the Borders during July and August. The adults (usually the female) doesn't leave until the end of August. The young will be starting to fledge during August.

This recent thread tells us that we can see Ospreys at Threave Castle.

The above thread will also give you ideas for other places to visit in the area and here's a link to the Opus articles covering the south of Scotland.

Wigtown and Caerlaverock WWT are both good sites for Opsreys in Dumfries and Galloway-the latter has CCTV set up on a nest beaming live images back to the Visitor Centre.

cheers
