Golden Gate NP in October

Slightly off topic but not totally! Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the answer to my questions on the GGNP forum.

1. Has anyone stayed at the hotel since it was revamped and have the chalets been revamped too? Are the chalets in a block or spaced apart?

2. Any opinions Highland Retreat/Hotel/Glen Reenan? How far apart are they?

3. What can I expect to see mid-October?

Thanks

Pat

Hi Pat

Seems you aren't having much luck with Golden Gate, sorry about that! I can't help with the chalet request, as I haven't been to Golden Gate for years.

However, if you click on this link, you should get a good idea of what birds you can expect to see in the park. This list contains a bird list, including what was reported per month.

The link is: http://birp.adu.org.za/site_summary.php?site=28402840

Enjoy the trip!

Pat, There are rondavels and family cottages at Glen Reenen. When I was last there the rondavels were fairly close together and pretty primitive. The cottages came later and I think the site has been enlarged. The site has also been upgraded considerably but I think the original rondavels are still in the same places just upgraded. Millions were spent on upgrading the hotel and it is fairly luxurious now. There is another, new luxury log cabin camp which I have never seen. Gklen Reenen is about half a km down the road from the hotel.

Sorry, cant help you much. Good luck with the queries.
