tiny moth for id please

I found this one on the back of a garden chair leg yesterday. The more I read Butterflies and Moths forum, the more curious I become. I never knew there were so many moth species! This one was less than 10mm.

Interesting, that I think this one was subject of another ID request recently. It is Cacoecimorpha pronubana (Carnation Tortrix)

Most micros don't have english names, but this is one that does. The orange hindwings are quite obvious in flight.

Hi Nerine,

Bradley and Fletcher list over 2,400 different Butterfly and Moth species as being recorded within the British Isles. Even as far north as I am on the Northumberland/Durham boundary over 1,800 species have been recorded.

Identification, especially of the numerous micro's can be a headache at times, especially from photographs. Some micro's are hardly larger than an adult greenfly.

Hi Harry

That's amazing - so many species! I must say I'm intrigued with Moths and Butterflies Board and am finding it quite hard to stay away. I have only just realised how attractive, even the tiniest moths can be - I used to think of them as dull brown things - but not any longer. Interesting names too!

Thanks for your help

I agree with this... seeing names like merveille du jour and setaceous Hebrew character makes me want to see them even if they are not that brilliantly beautiful!
