Do any terns winter along Menai Straights?

Wonder if anyone could help me with a query from December 2000, a time when I was quite new to birdwatching. I travelled to Bangor to see a Forster's Tern, strangely my notes say the bird was seen distantly with a group of 2-3 other terns.

Do any tern species over winter in this area? I know there are occasional individual records of Common and Sandwich Terns, but I think I must have been mistaken.
