Sites in Dubai

I am spending a week in Dubai this January (staying in Al Safa 1). I have already read on up many trip reports so I will certainly be calling in at Safa Park, Mushrif Park, Pivot Fields and Ras Al Khor. Three queries though:-

1) Is Al Warsan still worth a look and does anyone have precise directions?
2) Is anything of interest ever seen off the coast?
3) Are there any other suitable sites within a relatively short drive (am going with my non-birding girlfriend but dont want to test her patience too much). Particularly interested in Crab Plover or desert specialities sites.

Many thanks in advance
Phil

I get to Dubai about once a month and I always make it a point to visit Al Safa Park for a couple of hours. I usually stay in the area of Dubai Mall (Downtown) and it's a short taxi ride. Great place: Mynas (Common and Pied), House Crows, Lapwings, Sunbirds, Bulbuls, Silverbills, Indian Rollers, and more. I think it costs AED 3 to get in (about $1 US), it is drop dead beautiful, and you will have the whole place to yourself.

Good luck -
Jerry

I am also heading off to Dubai for a week this Friday. Its short notice (we were originally going to Egypt) so I haven't had much time to check out the birding sites. I have a car booked and hope to do a few trips out of the city, preferably to places that will also be good for the family.
Phil - where did you get your trip reports and which ones were the most useful? I will check out the places you mentioned above. Which of these sites did you find the best. I will be going at a much better time for migrants; will this mean visiting anywhere different?
Any advice appreciated

Tom

Have been at the Els Golf Club.
Not bad, but I wasn't overly impressed either.
Not enough trees & water for many birds, I guess.
