Hummingbird West-Panama

Hello,

This photo of a hummingbird was taken at 800- 1.000 meter in West-Panama.
On the road to Volcan. (But at lower altitude)

Anybody?
Maybe Stripe-tailed Hummingbird? Or the postocular spot suggest Green-crowned Brilliant?
Ahhhh Hummingbirds id's are always tough

Greetings,
Lennaert Steen from the Netherlands.

Whitish on undertail and tiny postocular spot plus general drab appearance and bill shape/length make me believe this is a Scaly-breasted Hummingbird. Shaft of outer primary looks it might be thickened and flattened, also good for Scaly-breasted.

Hello Walt,

Tx for comment.
Scaly-breasted was also on my list. But I didn't see the scaly breast.
The humming bird was singing.
In the book of Costa Rica is mentioned the following sentence.
"Male sings rather well for a Hummingbird"
So I think you're right.
Or is the breast not scaly enough?

Greetings,
Lennaert

The scaly breast is not the best feature to id this hummer, it is often very inconspicuous. Tail design, size and looking very drab are probably more useful! Compare your bird with this recently posted on another id thread:

Edit: my name is Eduardo not Walt

You're not the first one naming me Walt..., given enough time I may change my name to Walt

Agree with Eduardo (aka Walt:)) about this being a Scaly-breasted.
