The one that got away 2011

Has any bird eluded you so far in 2011? Did you hear something but didn't see it? Did you go looking for a particular bird that someone told you was there but couldn't find it? Did you catch a glimpse of something interesting that you couldn't positively ID?

Feel free to post throughout 2011.

Mine was a Water Rail on a local reserve. I've seen them before but I could only hear this one squealing, so it isn't on the year list yet.

Had a very possible Pacific Diver elude conclusive ID at the start of December. Gutting. But hope remains that it will show itself again over the course of the winter.

Lapland Bunting. Been to a place where there's supposedly one or two, but after three visits now seeing nothing but Yellowhammers I have given up. The local Sparrowhawk probably ate the buntings. That's what I choose to believe anyway!

Have to get that year tick somewhere else I guess.

Snow bunting. Everyone I know has seen one this winter, but every time I go I miss them.

OTOH, I've done really well on Lapland Longspur (Sorry, Enji) because I keep looking for the snow buntings.

I have also found quite a few Lapland Longspurs but have yet to see a Snow Bunting this year! There have been some reported around the state, but not around Saint Joseph!
