Bird bath repair
Can anyone suggest how to repair a bird bath that has been damaged by the recent very cold weather.
It has a pedestal upon which the water bowl is mounted,it is concrete based (cotswold stone colour) and small cracks have appeared in the bowl, consequently most of the water leaks away. Any ideas? |

OH coated the inside of ours with fibreglass, but it didn't last long, next frost & it cracked again. I bought a metal bird bath instead. The old concrete one is still there, it was concreted into the patio, so it's just ornamental now.

There was a thread about this a while back, although can't remember the outcome!
At that time I suggested sealing it with concrete pond sealant, available at any aquatics centre. Failing that you could carefully drill a hole thro the centre of the bowl & convert it to a bird table! |

You might be able to find a large plastic plant pot saucer which will fit into the bath. You can get clear ones or various colours. Alternatively, if you can remove the top you might find a ceramic pot saucer to suit or a floor mounted bird bath without a column which you could glue to your base with a good squirt of silicone sealer.

Thanks for your suggestions, I have considered this pond sealant:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GOLD-LABEL-CLE...item43a120b91a Its quite pricey but looks to be a good product. Ron, your idea of substituting another bath from a floor mount bird bath is also something i will look at. |
