Question Birds Wiping Their Bills???

For quite some time, I have been noticing that birds in my feeder tree wipe their bills on the branches. Why is this? Is it just to clean them, or is their another reason, like to sharpen them or something???
Many thanks,
Bethan :)

Yes, cleaning them. I often see choughs doing that, and they feed by probing in the soil, or grubbier substrates!

If i remember right from my falconry days... a bird wiping its beak on a perch/branch is called "feaking", "to feak"
