Bucket sort or zip round? I can throw a tripod and scope in the very cheap Regatta Advance 30l (£12-ish) and it isn't going anywhere because there's no zip to break. Outside pockets let me get to a water bottle without getting off my back and the straps are comfortable.

I have an Lowe Alpine Pax25 too, which is great, but if I over stuff it the zips can peel down from the central position and dump gear everywhere! I keep the zips at the bottom of their range now to avoid this... they are beginning to feel the strain with a few broken teeth, but after about 8 or 9 years of almost constant abuse!!

Yes the type with clips rather than zip arounds as I had the same problem of zips opening and all my stuff falling out.

I've just got a Gelert rucksack with a 'Cool Air Back System', seems very good so far. There are good deals on Amazon.

I bought the Gelert Wilderness rucksack and sent it back as the waistbelt is far too short. My waist is not that big yet the belt would only close if I sucked my stomach in and It would be quite awkward too do this all the time. I'm heading to the Lake District in August so I'll wait till then and tryout a few from the many outdooor type shops that are scattered around the area. Ger.

I've had no problems with the waist strap and I'm sporting a fine beer gut.
