Hi from San Antonio

Hello to all! I've been reading for awhile, and finally decided to join. I'm fairly new to birding - we moved here a couple of years ago, and have just this year gotten feeders up and begun making the yard bird-friendly. It has quickly become an obsession - I find myself sitting for hours with the binoculars, refilling bird baths multiple times a day, experimenting with different treats, etc.

So far we have TONS of lesser goldfinches, flocks of white-winged and mourning doves, mockingbirds, some cardinals, bluejays, house finches, a Bewick's wren, and my favorites - a couple of black-crested titmouses. I had a golden-fronted woodpecker pair for a bit, but haven't seen them in a week or more. Oh, and hummingbirds! About 5 Cedar Waxwings made a brief visit to the birdbath a few days ago - passing through, I'm sure.

We also have the usual great-tailed grackles, cowbirds, a couple of starlings, and unfortunately house sparrows. But our lot and subdivision, despite its greenbelts, backs up to a large shopping center, so I doubt we'll get rid of those completely.

Hi SATXNewbie and a warm welcome to you on behalf of the Staff and Moderators.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I'll look forward to your contributions - it sounds like you've a lot of birds there to tell us about.
