Uk Damselfly Id Needed - Possible Scarce Blue Tailed Damselfly
Hi All,
Being a total novice on Damselfly ID, I was wondering whether anyone could ID this one for me? I've been told it could be a female immature scarce blue tailed damselfly? Regards Alex |

Hi Alex - it's a female Blue-tailed Damselfly of the form rufescens-obsoleta. Immature female Scarce Blue-tailed have a mostly black segment 8 as well as having the black on the top of the thorax confined to the centre.
See here for a female immature Scarce Blue-tailed Damselfly. It is also a bit early for Scarce Blue-tailed in Hampshire although this has been an exceptional year. HTH, Paul |
