Help with Mouse Identification
Dear all,
Being primarily a birder I haven't a clue what the identification of this mouse is that visited my urban garden in SE London in May 2003. It made several visits on consecutive days, feeding on seed put out for the birds. A photo of it is below. The white patches behind the ears were particularly noticeable. Are they significant? Thanks, Lancey |

Hi Lancey,
Either a Wood Mouse (Apodemus sylvaticus) or Yellow-necked Mouse (A. flavicollis), not sure which on these views If it gets tame enough to feed from your hand, see if it has a yellow collar between its forelegs underneath (= Yellow-necked) or not (= Wood). I don't think the white ear patches mean anything, probably just a feature of this individual. Michael |
