Amazonian LBJ
This small bird was seen in a bush along a flood plain of an Amazonian tributary in the Madre de Dios in Peru. I had wondered if it was a Pygmy-Tyrant, but can't convince myself that it matches the illustrations in the reference texts.
The pictures, as usual, aren't great. The bird was hiding in distant bushes, on a rainy morning. Thanks for looking. Charles |

Patrick, I think you may have nailed it. Certainly, the location and behaviour fit that species. Thank you.
I had dismissed that possibility because I expected that the light eye stripe and the wing bars would be readily apparent. However, as I have sought other images of the Little Ground-Tyrant, including this one from BirdForum (http://www.birdforum.net/opus/Little_Ground_Tyrant), I see no appreciable difference between my bird and these ones. In the absence of a dissenting opinion, I'll list it as such. |
