I digiscoped this little "unknown" yesterday be in Hong Kong hanging around with Greenshanks. I've had 3 different suggestions so far.
I'm sure this group will narrow it down.

I imagine Cox's Sandpiper was one of the suggestions? Was certainly my first thought

The "jizz" is surely Curlew Sandpiper-like even if the bill may not look black enough in the picture.

Intriguing! Looks like a juv Curlew Sand...but doesn't!

Would be interested to see more photos, but a Cox's, or similar hybrid seems a possibility.

I think it's an adult Curlew Sandpiper moulting into winter plumage.

Neil's subject bird doesn't show any hint of a pectoral band (which Cox's, a hybrid between Pec and Curlew Sand seems to show).

Could it be a Curlew Sand with a deformed bill? Or a different hybrid?

I can't see anything else than a "normal" Curlew Sandpiper bill. Only the color is a bit "off". That could be a result of the mud it's sticking it into.
