2 from Sarawak, Borneo
Hi
Two pictures, not the greatest I know, but I am unsure as to what they are, so any suggestions welcome (no.1 a babbler?) Both taken in Mulu NP. Thanks Tony

Agree with Hairy-backed, not sure about the Horsfields but that bright buff vent looks right.

Yup, Hairy-backed Bulbul and Horsfield's Babbler... the latter is much brighter in Borneo than rest of its range.

may be out of my depth here given the people who've already commented...
:-) but couldn't the first bird be a moustached babbler? belly doesn't seem to be yellow at all on my monitor also lower mandible looks pale with a pronounced keel see e.g. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jmittermeier/4365883264/ cheers, James |

Hi
Thanks for the replies. I have to admit that I was surprised by the Bulbul answer as I had thought a babbler was more likely. I would alo agree with James L in that the is little sign of yellow on the belly which Dave B's pictures show (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__Dq5_ABpFr...0_IMG_5393.jpg) As such, I enclose another photo, but it is no better than the first and so not much more use. Thanks again Tony
