Lynx Edicions's IBC has been revised to reflect the taxonomic treatment adopted for HBW 16 (Nov 2011):

Species accounts (taxonomy, sspp, distribution) are so far only available for a subset of species.

Lynx Edicions's forthcoming Illustrated Checklist of the Birds of the World will reportedly follow BLI taxonomy.

Splits

Haven't conducted an exhaustive check, but a quick look reveals several often-suggested Nearctic splits not widely recognised by other authorities...

  • Passerella [iliaca] iliaca - Red Fox-sparrow
  • Passerella [iliaca] schistacea - Slate-colored Fox-sparrow
  • Passerella [iliaca] megarhyncha - Thick-billed Fox-sparrow
  • Passerella [iliaca] unalaschcensis - Sooty Fox-sparrow

  • Passerculus [sandwichensis] sandwichensis - Savannah Sparrow
  • Passerculus [sandwichensis] guttatus - Belding's Sparrow
  • Passerculus [sandwichensis] rostratus - Large-billed Sparrow
  • Passerculus [sandwichensis] sanctorum - San Benito Sparrow

  • Artemisiospiza [belli] belli - Bell's Sparrow
  • Artemisiospiza [belli] nevadensis - Sage Sparrow

  • Sturnella [magna] lilianae - Lilian's Meadowlark
  • Sturnella [magna] magna - Eastern Meadowlark

Up till now, BLI taxonomy emphasised, quite understandably, threatened species, but quite a number of species not at risk seemed classified in an older fashion. Have BLI caught up sufficiently for Lynx to adopt their latest version? Certainly BLI claimed on their website to be putting a lot of effort into updating their taxonomy...

Quick perusal also shows:

Northern Hepatic-tanager (Piranga hepatica)
Highland Hepatic-tanager (Piranga lutea)
Lowland Hepatic-tanager (Piranga flava)

(these are recognized by IOC but not AOU/SACC)

To get an idea of the degree of disparity between BLI and HBW taxonomy, I made a quick comparison of splits of species regularly occurring in the Holarctic region: currently, there are 40 Holarctic species recognised by BLI but not by HBW, and 44 recognised by HBW but not by BLI.

Convergence will clearly require considerable change for one or both parties. The intention to re-use the existing HBW artwork within the illustrated checklist will presumably make extensive changes a headache for Lynx.
