Red face Hi there... I have a pigeon pair, 1 baby and 3 eggs right now...

I thought pigeons were only supposed to lay 2 eggs?

Hello Timber and a warm welcome to you from the staff here at BirdForum. Can't answer your question on Pigeon clutches. Is this a wild pigeon you are talking about?

Hi Timber,

KC is quite right, pigeons usually only lay 2 eggs per nesting attempt. What I suspect you may have here is one youngster and one infertile egg from the first attempt and another pair of eggs from a second nesting attempt. Under normal circumstances the parents don't go to nest again that quickly, at least not until the youngsters in the first round have either left the nest, or are close to doing so. Perhaps having only one youngster to raise has brought the pair into breeding condition earlier than usual on this occasion.
