Baby Cedar Waxwing

Hi everyone. Sighted 9 Cedar Waxwing - 8 adults and 1 very cute and fluffy baby. Lake Aquitaine - Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

Very nice to see waxwings! Always an exciting moment. I'm not too sure about seeing a young one at this time of year though. I'd guess the babies, which are almost adult size when fledging, should have all their normal flight feathers by now, though someone may correct me. I wonder if some other smaller bird might have been mixed in with the flock...

Hi Gretchen. A late nest (October) is possible, especially with the mild Fall we've been having. It was 100% baby Cedar Waxwing - a rare treat! (wish I had a camera!)
