Svensson in Stock

If I was a proper book dealer I'd buy them and sell them on at a profit.

Instead....

Here you are

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Identificati...1435112&sr=1-1

Nonsence! The original 4th edition has been available for some years from various secondhand birdbook sources for £30 or under.Amazon and Abe add at least 25% onto the secondhand price for the priviledge of having the book on their site!

A reprint of this title has been available since long from "Naturbokhandeln", the shop of the Swedish Ornithological Society (http://http://sof.ca-eline.com/servl...=h_ix3.htm&p=H) at 248 Swedish Crowns, approximately €26 or £22 excluding P&P.

Amazon actually own Abe. They take 17.25% from the sales/postage price plus a transaction fee of 86p (which they wave if you pay a £25 a month fee)

I'm a second hand bookseller who has used ABE in the past and I can assure you that they do not add anything onto the price for the privelege of using their site ( You set the price and postage you want on each book ). They charge a set fee every month of £25 for up to 4000 books, commission of 8% and a credit charge of 5.5% on every transaction. Amazon's charges are exactly Jane has stated.

Reminds me of when the wife and I birded Japan in 2005. I wanted to get hold of a copy of Mark Brazil's 1987 site guide - then long out of print, with used copies selling for more than £100. But with some determined web browsing, I found a specialist Japanese bookshop in Australia that still had some copies on the shelf at the original modest price. I ordered a copy, and also posted details on various birding internet groups. Next time I looked at the bookshop's website, it was listed as their number one bestseller! I think I deserved some commission...

Yes one of my very favourite books - a joy to read, superb illustrations and lovely layout as well as a brilliant text - I still refer to it often.

A snip at £20. I paid that in about 1993.
