Tuesday August 17, 2004: A PILEATED WOODPECKER has been coming to feeders all summer in the 4900 block of Lost Lake Road in Nanaimo. Monday August 16: Five COMMON TERNS were spotted at Columbia Beach. Two young FRANKLIN'S GULLS, along with 180 BONAPART'S GULLS were seen at Craig Bay in Parksville. Sunday August 15: The Sunday bird walk went to Legacy Marsh in upper Lantzville, seven Sunday birders found the following thirty-three speces: Pied-billed Grebe Turkey Vulture Canada Goose Wood Duck Mallard Hooded Merganser Bald Eagle Sharp-shinned Hawk Common Snipe Band-tailed Pigeon Vaux's Swift Northern Flicker Willow Flycatcher Cassin's Vireo Northwestern Crow Common Raven Violet-green Swallow Barn Swallow Chestnut-backed Chickadee Bushtit Brown Creeper Golden-crowned Kinglet American Robin European Starling Cedar Waxwing Orange-crowned Warbler Yellow Warbler Common Yellowthroat Spotted Towhee Song Sparrow Red-winged Blackbird Pine Siskin American Goldfinch Saturday August 14: Four OSPREY, two RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS, 42 GREAT BLUE HERONS and a flock of 13 RAVENS were seen at Jack Point Park in south Nanaimo . Friday August 13: Three RING-BILLED GULLS, three BLACK TURNSTONES, and over twelve BONAPARTS GULLS, were seen along Columbia Beach. Five SEMI-PALIMATED PLOVERS and a large flock of KILLDEER was seen along the Englishman River Estuary. Thursday August 12: 29 CALIFORNIA QUAIL were seen in Smugglers Hill Drive in Nanaimo. Tuesday August 10: Two WILD TURKEYS were spotted along Fulford Road on Salt Spring Island. Monday August 09, 2004: :RARE BIRD ALERT: The WANDERING TATTLER first seen on the Sunday bird walk to Englishman River Estuary Plummer Road side was again seen today in the same area-- look from the boardwalk towards the gravel bars near the Art Gallery. The tattler was seen in with a flock of Black-bellied Plovers. Sunday August 08: "RARE BIRD ALERT" A RINGED-TURTLE DOVE was spotted in the Madrona Point area coming to feeders. Has anyone heard of any reports of escaped RINGED-TURTLE DOVES in this district?
