Unidentified Singapore species
This bird is so distinctive that it should be readily identifiable even from the fairly ordinary photograph attached. I saw it during a stopover in Singapore at Pasir Ris park, where it emerged from mangrove forest. I have not been able to match it to any species listed for Singapore. It may be an escapee, but it was quite wary. Can anyone more familiar with the region's birds ID it?

Hi jmwatson,
I believe it's a White-crowned Robin-Chat (Cossypha albicapilla) I thought they were an African species so not sure what it's doing in Singapore :) Probably an escapee. Nige

Thanks Nige
A quick check shows both the zoo and bird park have kept this species, so that probably explains it. Had me puzzled. John |
