Try sending an e-mail to the Opticron Service department, quoting the code of your eyepiece enquiry?

Stevo. It is not as simple as the diameter of the thread. What eyepeice/scope combination are you interested in?

Hi

Sorry if I seemed abrupt i`ve bought a praktica scope off an auction site for a reasonable price. However the zoom eyepiece isn`t up to much,so I removed it & measured the thread diameter & it`s 1.25".So i`m looking for another eyepiece to fit it.

Thanks.

Steve - as Chris has mentioned, the connection is not as simple as just the diameter of the screw thread. We'd also need to know what the thread pitch is, whether it is internally or externally threaded, what the clearance is inside the scope body etc just to determine physical compatibility.

Beyond that there are optical path considerations that could make some eyepieces incompatible despite the apparent physical compatibility.

Your best bet would be to visit a local retailer that has some examples of Opticron (or any other make of eyepiece) in stock and actually try them out. In Hampshire you are relatively limited in choice - the London Camera Exchange has branches in Southampton, Winchester and Fareham and there's also RJ Parker in Southampton. Unfortunately, LCE tends not to carry a significant range of any scope makers' products anymore.

Sorry to not be of more help!

Cheers, Pete

Thankyou Peter for taking the time to reply,i`ve ordered an eyepiece if it doesn`t fit then i`ll sell the scope,I didn`t pay too much for it & it was just a speculative dip into the scope market.

In your area Steve Lce Winchester or Southampton would be your best bet to look at a range of eyepieces.

You may need to try a couple of different eyepieces as Opticron use a few different fittings, also they sell nice cheap adapters - so you can try different options.
I am using the Opticron SDL V2 eyepiece on a Kowa TSN4 Prominar - this combination is great - not too shabby compared to the 85mm Leica and better than the 80mm Opticron I directly compared it to. Well worth hunting about.

Also have to take account of the focal length of the scope - you may get an eyepiece to fit, but you could also find that the depth of range of a "focused image" is poor or even non existant, thus rendering it unusable.
