Love your rendering of the female Northern Cardinal, tbbilbo! A very nice piece!

* Have you been over to Smithville Lake to see the Snowy Owls that are currently in residence there?

Like the cardinal very much. I keep trying to sketch them in our backyard but they have a tendency to feed at dawn and dusk, and not sit still to boot! But one of these days...........

More Missouri Wildlife

Here's another older work - a bobwhite quail. The Missouri Dept. of Conservation is working vigorously to increase our quail population. They are beautiful birds. Bobwhite Quail; watercolor; 2008; 11"x14".

Nicely done. I haven't seen one of these in so long I can't begin to comment on accuracy. But artistically it's very pleasing.

Hi there,
Some of this work is quite exquisite! I love how you've handled the background veg with the Green Heron - very clever!
Never seen any of the American grouse but from the illustrations, including this fine portrait, they look stunna's!

Sorry, I'm late to welcome you, so; 'Welcome!'

Lovely stuff here, particularly the cardinal and the heron. I look forward to more.

exactly my thoughts!
Not that the Heron was bad, but the background is striking.

More artwork to share

Sorry it's been so long since I last participated. Holiday visitors have departed and I'm ready to begin painting anew for 2012. My sincere thanks for all your kind words. I must agree with your earlier observations - my background for the "Green Heron" is one of my best. Backgrounds have not been my strong suit. I hope to improve on future ones. Here's an earlier work: "American Goldfinch with Chokecherry Blossoms"; watercolor; 2011; 16"x20". Have a great New Year!
