Gray Kingbird in Costa Rica? (1 Viewer)

Hi folks - I took this photo in Tortuguero, Costa Rica at the end of November. I think it can only be a Gray Kingbird but my guidebook says this is not likely at all. Any views welcome. Thanks

It is a Gray Kingbird (lack of terminal white tail band, dark mask, large and thick bill).

In Garrigues and Dean's "Birds of Costa Rica," Gray Kingbird is described as a "very rare passage migrant along the Caribbean coast from September to early October."

I would venture to guess that the autumn passage of Gray Kingbird in Costa Rica should be a little bit more prolonged, considering that birds don't completely clear out of the state of Florida until the end of October (few documented birds found overwintering). There should still be some migratory movements at that latitude in November -- in any case, a great find!

Agree. eBird has 6 records of GK for Costa Rica. One at Tortuguero. But none after October. Consider submitting to eBird (see link in my signature). And welcome to the forum.
