Advice needed for Digiscoping with APO77

Hi,
I have a Leica APO 77 and would like to start Digiscoping,
Can anyone please advise me what necessary adapters / mounting hardware is available for this set up. How do i support the camera ?

I have decided to use the Coolpix 4500, and would love to hear from anyone
who is using this combination.
Thanks in anticipation
Ian

Hi Ian,
There are plenty of digiscoping adapters around to connect camera to scope. Eagle Eye Digimount, London Camera Exchange, Spidertech and others. Have a look HERE
Regards.

Thank you Andy,
The LCE one looks good,
Just wondering if the screws are plastic otherwise they may mark the casing of the eyepiece,

Yes the screws are plastic and should not harm your scope eyepiece.

I don't know if Leica make one, because if price is not a major concern, my experience of Swaro and Nikon adapters is that they are far better made and smoother in operation than the equivalent LCE adapter; I am sure the same could be said of Leica. I use an LCE adapter for my Zeiss scope and, although it is perfectly functional, it is not in the same league as the manufacturer's own make.

I read with interest the review of the Zeiss quick adaptor (BF Homepage - equipment reviews) and will be checking this out myself. I currently use the cp4500 & APO 77 with a 20-60 zoom and find that with the adaptor (Eagle eye) screwed to the eyepiece I can only take photos at 20x as the weight of the camera rotates the zoom. Obviosly this is of no consequence if you are using a fixed eyepiece, which I may get as an alternative, poss the 32xW - opinions anyone? any advantage?

I think the best photos are often taken at 20x anyway so the possibility to zoom the scope may not be such a big deal. However, at least the Spidertech tube adapter allows the free use of the zoom.

Re the Leica 32xW, that is my absolute favourite eyepiece for birdwatching because of its huge AFOV - but IMHO it does not make a big difference in digiscoping. As Andy Bright has said, use the eyepiece that you like best for normal birdwatching.

Those 30~xW from Leica, Nikon, Kowa, Swaro, Zeiss all pack a punch birding-wise, don't they? Anyone who has only tried a zoom is, I reckon, missing a potential treat.
