Hi
We had a nest box in the garden which was occupied by blue tits last year, we missed the young fledging. We decided to have one with a camera, so when the nest was empty we threw the box and nest material away. Within a couple of days the new camera nest box was up and working. We then found that every night a blue tit was coming to the new bare box. We dont know how long he had been coming, he may have been using the old box until we destroyed it and the nesting material. We see him come to roost just before dark and then just as its getting light in the morning, some 16 hours later!!!, off he goes for food. We feel a bit guilty because we destroyed the old nest he may have been using to keep warm. Seems to be doing ok, but we are wondering if we should make an artifical nest in the box, or just place some feathers in there, or should we do nothing. We dont want to scare him off, so are trying to find out the best way to tackle this, with the hope he may breed at the right time, and we end up with a nice blue tit family breeding. Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this problem, your advice would be welcome. Many thanks Phil |

I'd guess and let nature take its' course. You could always place bits of nesting material in twigs and branches (if you have any) close by and feel happy that you have helped in a different way Lol!!
