1st January 2012. No particular order. Nothing impressive.

1. Black-headed gull
2. Blackbird in hedge.
3. Jackdaw
4. Rook
5.Carrion crow
6. Starling
7.Woodpigeon
8. Collared dove
9.Dunnock
10. Robin
11.Coal tit
12. Goldfinch
13. Blue tit
14. Great tit
15. Chaffinch
16. House sparrow
17. Starling

It was a slow and fairly rubbish start, but still, I was beating the two rivals in my family.

2nd January 2012. Fairburn. Now we're getting somewhere.

18. Kestrel over motorway.
19. Red kite, also over motorway
20.Mute swan
21. Taiga bean goose - a decent one for a change
22. Little egret
23. Cormorant
24. Canada goose
25. Greylag goose
26. Shelduck
27. Gadwall
28. Teal
29. Mallard
30. Shoveler
31. Tufted duck
32. Goosander
33. Buzzard
34. Pheasant
35. Moorhen
36. Coot
37. Lapwing
38. Lesser black-backed gull
39. Kingfisher at Kingfisher Hide - naturally
40.Redwing
41. Fieldfare
42. Tree sparrow
43. Long-tailed tit
44. Magpie

Not a bad day by all accounts, and the Bean goose was a nice surprise.

3rd January 2012

45. Feral Pigeon. Not everyone may count them, but I do.

6th January 2012: added

46. Wren

But there was not much chance to watch birds until the 8th, when we went to the east coast of Yorkshire to see what we could see.

First Filey.

47. Great black-backed gull
48. Red-necked grebe off brigg - very nice little birds
49. Oystercatcher
50. Sanderling
51. Purple sandpiper
52. Redshank
53. Turnstone
54. Herring-gull

And at Bempton, we saw nothing except the ones listed on the sightings board, which was quite impressive:

55. Short-eared owl
56. Peregrine
57. DESERT WHEATEAR - what we came for! But we never would have found it if not for two people and one telescope pointing the the right direction.
