For Oman, definitely use Porter & Aspinall 2010 (Birds of the Middle East).

Aspinall & Porter 2011 (Birds of the UAE) is a cut-down version of the former, and will of course exclude many species occurring in Oman, particularly in the south (Dhofar).

For up to date birding info in the Middle East, google 'ME Birdnet', then search for 'Oman Birder' reports (issued about weekly).
