The eyepeice you use should be fine - upgrading to the ED version of the scope will give a better image, though this may only notice in poor viewing conditions. The camera that you use will also affect the quality of pictures you get - what do you use?
I also find that my photos are better when the subject is closer, I suppose the more of the frame that the bird fills the easier it is to get sharp focus on it. |

Hi
Thanks for the reply. I was using the Nikon 995 but never got a decent pic I then read the write up on here regarding the contax sl 300 but went for the cheaper version the kyocera and got some better pics but only when I was close like 25-30 feet now I am begining to think its the scope,so I think I will have to up gradeto some thing like the kowa/leica. Last year I changed from the Opticron to a Leica scope and have been getting better results. I use the zoom eyepeice which works fine, but would recomend the 32x fixed for digiscoping. I find the zoom useful for general birding, but will be buying the 32x when I can afford to, I've tried other peoples it's a great eyepeice with an excellent field of view.

I think anyone who digiscopes will have your experience in that the closer you are the better the shots, although you can gbet the odd one from say 50 yards that is good the majority will be just O.K. The further away a subject is the more the following come into play, especially when hand held. Camera/Scope movement Shakes. Focus on the scope slightly off. Focus on the Camera off. Autofocus not focussing on the subjet, but on a branch infront/behind. Insufficient light ( low camera shutter speed ). Impurities in the air Heat Haze And the last thing, the Camera and scope. Even if you do upgrade, I am reasonably sure you will still be disappointed by distance shots!.
