There are a couple of books on these species if you can find the. One is called Grasshoppers, Crickets and Cockroaches of The British Isles, 1965. F.Warne & Co written by David R. Wragge. It is out of print but it is still perhaps the best book around on all the british species. A copy was for sale on eBay recently and sold for £20+. There is another book called Grasshoppers and Allied Insects of G.B. & Ireland 1990 for sale on eBay at present Item no 6922400190 The starting bid is £9.00. This auction ends at 0700hrs on 11th Sept. I haven't seen this book but it does have coloured plates and illustrations plus distribution maps that will be more up to date than Wragge's book. I can't help you out with a website for these but there must be one somewhere. Harry |

Hi Angus
A guess-you have to check if they occur in your region, but could the first one be Omocestus haemorhoidalis and the second one Chorthippus albomarginatus? Jörn |

Thanks for input Harry and Joern,
Don't know on distribution of species that you mentioned Joern. Found a site with some good pictures. Take a while to download pictures when on dial-up but are good pictures. http://www.angelfire.com/falcon/hoppers/ |
