WWT London

Am hoping to visit the WWT reserve in London in a few weeks. I am a WWT member and Slimbridge is a near weekly visit for me. Have been to the Llanelli reserve a few times too and thoroughly enjoyed that.

Any tips for must-sees at the London reserve? Anything I could see (birds considered common or not!) that I might not catch on my usual trip to Slimbridge? Anything else I should know?

Might get lucky with a Cetti's, but there best seen on the other side of London. Jack snipe is still around, Yellow wagtail and Wheatear present and lots of Sand martins arriving. Can't say much more though as it's best in the winter months, and Slimbridge hosts much more wildlife; the main appeal of the London site is its urbanity.

Might be a bit late now but you often see Bittern. There was also a peregrine flying around a month or two back. I can guarantee you'll dee ring-necked parakeets! All around the car park and visitor centre. It's a good place as just about anything seems to turn up. As has been said, Jack Snipe can be seen (although I did not see them on my one visit this winter, I have seen them in the past).

London WWT, will give you great views at the Sandmartin bank. Should be plenty of nesting Sandmartins at this time of year. Our visit in spring, gave us Lapwing chicks & Ruddy Duck, Ring Necked Parakeets a plenty. Scan distant high buildings for possible Peregine Falcons. As with any reserve, anything is possible. Arrive at opening time if you want to beat the coach loads of kids on school trips!!. The birds don`t seem to mind them though. Enjoy your trip.
