Slaty-backed was the feeling at the time certainly. Thought I'd post here for the greater good as much as confirmation (spoken like he knows about gulls ;D )
 
Think I'd be quite shocked if I saw this on the Beidaihe sandflats! :eek!:

though of course I don't do gulls :-O
