Goldcrest close encounters

Today a pair of Goldcrests arrived in the Camellia plant next to our window.
They stayed for 10-15 mins flicking about not 12" from my face on the other side of the glass. They were totally unconcerned that i was taking photosand videos with the camera on the window. Is this close encounter unusual? I certainly enjoyed studying these lovely little birds.

I guess it depends on how light hits the windows, but birds sometimes might not see inside and be aware of people's presence. A very nice opportunity for you! And interesting to get to watch two together. Did you seem them looking for insects on the camellia?

Hi Gretchen, they did not seem to be looking for food at all, I thought it must have been some sort of courtship behaviour.
Regards
Geoff

Hi
I often see Goldcrests in and around the Leylandii trees at my workplace and they seem utterly unafraid, letting me get within a foot or so.
Pity I`m not allowed to take a camera to work.

I too, a couple of winters ago, managed to get within a foot or so of a Goldcrest on a low hanging branch. It is odd how birds generally fly at even a hint of taking an interest in them but just occasionally they seem totally unperturbed.
