Can anyone tell me another name or the latin name for this bird

Whilst checking for any new entries for the database I came accross this fellow.

http://www.birdforum.net/pp_gallery/...at/529/page/23

He is described as an African Calao.

In the database there is no bird with this name listed and the ones I have found on search engines don't seem to look the same.

Can anyone enlighten me on it's ID

I'm not an expert (never been in Africa), but I would say a Trumpeter Hornbill (Ceratogymna bucinator).

Agree with Trumpeter Hornbill but it may have more than one latin name as both the Birds of East Africa (Stevenson and Fanshawe) and the SASOL South Africa guide call it Bycanistes bucinator.

Those books are probably using the Howard & Moore taxonomic list, which is the only one using Bycanistes bucinator. All the other lists (e.g., CINFO, Clements, Sibley & Monroe) are using Ceratogymna bucinator.

Thanks Gaga & Godwit,

It will be a new photo for the database, we had no Trumpeter Hornbill pictures.
The database names it as "Ceratogymna bucinator".

Thanks again, the more of these identification photos that I am querying for the database, the more I am amazed at the depth of knowledge of our members.

Keep looking as I have a few more to post in the next few days.
