It does seem to have had a bad press but your images look excellent, I was attracted originally by the built in GPS but was frightened off by the bad press.

Hi speckled wood....yes your quite right about the bad press and also what people read they then echo it in posts which makes it look even worse....GPS i must be honest i've never used it...but when i was looking for a bridge i wanted the bigest zoom so it came down to the sx40 and P510 both are great but why i picked the nikon was for the slightly bigger high res lcd so when i take a pic i could bring it in to see if i got a sharp picture....and got to say i'm pretty impressed with the camera.

I was interested in the GPS because I do a lot of landscape and location shots and wanted something lighter to carry on bike trips than my sony a65 (which has got built in GPS), I have got a compact Fuji with GPS that is not very good. So I would be interested to know how efficient the GPS is on the P510.

I'm not a photographer by any means, and really only take snaps for lighting reference etc, but I do have a P510 and really like it (I've also got its predecessor - the P90 .. . like that too, but the sharpness of the 510 beats the 90, IMHO).
Here are a few snaps taken recently;

had never considered it either, had always thought the choice was between the Panasonics and the Canon, but 42x zoom is unbelievable
