What kind of a shroom is this? I at least think it's a shroom.

It looks like a Coprinus comatus, commonly known as Lawyer's Wig, or Shaggy Ink Cap.

Good advice, and to generalise it, don't eat if they are growing on contaminated ground e.g. near/on a lawn that might have been sprayed with chemicals. Fungi have widespread mycelium - sort of like roots - which pick up chemicals. For quite some time after Chernobyl, fungi were found to have high levels of radioactive contamination.

Thanks everyone! I'm afraid to eat shrooms i would pick anyway; plus, I found these at an arboretum and can't pick them anyway. I never seen these before. Interesting.
